One of a kind wool braided rugs designed perfectly for your home
Jan Stevens of Lebanon, NH has been making fine wool braided rugs since 2009. Each rug is unique, and can be designed to fit perfectly in an allotted space.
The dozens of rugs she has created include ovals, circles, hexagons, octagons, rectangles, and squares. Hexagons and squares can be stitched together to create a gridded pattern.
Jan can help you choose a palette that suits your home and preferences.
Rectangle, square, hexagon, octagon, circle, or oval.
From stair runners and seat covers, to enormous area rugs.
Each rug is made of 8 layers of folded wool, designed to last a lifetime.
Each rug is made of 8 layers of folded wool, designed to last a lifetime.
The materials for each rug start off as large wool sheets. Jan washes the wool, cuts it into strips, and rolls it into coils that are used to ultimately make the rugs. The strips from the coils are then used to create long, even braids, which she butts into circles. Each concentric circle is laced together to form the rug. Jan always plans her rugs in advance to ensure that the color choices are perfect.
"Butting" each braid (shown here) enables Jan to make more complex shapes. Furthermore, if a portion of the rug is damaged, she can undo the stitching to replace only the affected components so the rug can be salvaged.
Each rug is custom made; the rugs featured on this website are not available for sale. However, if you like what you see here, a replica may be possible. Because each rug is custom, your order could take several weeks or several months to make.
